Get To Know: Patti Peters of The Wing Thing

Meet Patti Peters of The Wing Thing
What is it that you design and create?
Jewelry, for women who have confidence and style.
What is your favorite part of the design process?
Oh, I love everything about the design process. And, I especially like to create pieces that have a unique twist. But, I’d have to say that my favorite part of the process is the completion – the end result. Looking at a piece that’s finished and knowing that it’s “rightâ€.
How did you come up with your business name?
It came from my logo. If you look closely you’ll see a bird (we had pet birds for many years), the family initials (T and P), my favorite color which is purple, and the colors of the Estonian flag (blue, black and white) – my husband’s background is Estonian. When I looked at the logo that my husband designed I said “hey – it’s a wing thingâ€.
Who or what inspires you?
I get my inspiration mainly from nature. I love incorporating critters into a piece, but it could also be the rich color of a bead, architecture, watching an old movie and seeing the fabulous jewels that the stars wore.
What advice would you give other independent artists who are just starting out?
First of all, you’ve really got to love what you do because boy, you’ll be working hard. Aside from creativity, you need to be patient, organized, well prepared for hard work, and not afraid to take a chance. And, don’t be afraid to use the many resources that are available to artists/small business owners.
What’s on your iPod/music player right now?
The East Village Opera Company.
What t.v. shows are you currently hooked on?
Star Gate – I absolutely love it!
What was the last movie you watched?
Wedding Crashers.
What’s your favorite food?
Pasta. I could eat it every day. Hey, it’s lunch time – I think I have some leftover lasagna in the fridge!
What’s your favorite candy?
Chocolate truffles – yummm!
What store could you walk around in for hours and be happy?
I haven’t found a clothing store or department store that makes me happy. But antique shops, junk shops, thrift shops, or a church bazaar, they always put a smile on my face.
Any pets?
No, not at the moment.
Favorite place to visit or place you’d like to visit?
I’ve always wanted to go to Greece. One day maybe…..
If you could be a superhero, what would your name be and what would be your superpowers?
I don’t know about a name, but I’d be a flying, karate chopping, super chick with the added power of invisibility, so that you can sneak up on those bad guys.
Any celebrity crushes?
Nope, never have.
Thanks, Patti. Now let’s see what’s happening at her shop…
