Handmade Shoes?

I can hardly even imagine how someone makes a pair of shoes. I just assumed that big machines make them in factories. Annie makes shoes by hand in her studio in Chicago!
Her shoes are carefully created with a birch plywood core and topped with select veneers. The rubber soles of the shoes are made of recycled tires. All of these components are then laminated and pressed together on molds that were designed and fabricated by Annie. She strives to use the most environmentally-friendly materials in her creations. She even screenprints her original graphics onto the bed of each of the shoes. How amazing is that?
Mohop is the site where Annie sells her sandals. In addition to the United States, you can also find her products in New Zealand and online.

So, what’s the deal with her sandals? First you choose a shoe and style…

Well, chosing which one to get is already a tough job. Next you can choose accessories. You’ll already receive a set of 3 colored ribbons (pictured in the low-heel photo above). Why? If you haven’t noticed, there are places on top of the sandal where you can “lace up” with ribbon! Choose from tie ribbons, buckle ribbons, vintage fabrics and embellished ribbons.

Here’s some example of what you can do from the gallery

Head on over to Mohop now and see what you can do with Annie’s handmade shoes.

If you can crochet or knir, you can make your own straps too. I have seen a very lovely pair of Mohop shoes with crocheted straps. Beautiful!

I ordered a pair for my birthday and I’m just sitting by the mailbox waiting patiently (yeah, right) for them to get here. I got the mid-heel ones with the hibiscus print. I can’t wait!!!
