Where are you located?
Millbrook, NY
What is it that you design and create?
Handmade jewelry and abstract expressionistic oil paintings.
What is your favorite part of the design process?
Being able to create exactly what I have envisioned in my head, and sometimes make it better.
How did you come up with your business name?
A long story involving a fly fisherman and a high energy personality.
Where/How did this all begin?
After art school I missed creating everyday and was not inspired by the jobs I found, so I began Manic Trout. In the past five years I have been down many creative avenues and finally decided that I love to paint and design jewelry more then anything else, so here I am.
Who or what inspires you?
Fashion, photography, water, color, light and texture.
What advice would you give other independent artists who are just starting out? Don’t quit your day job, you will have the luxury of not having to live off your work for a while and will build an amazing work ethic.
What’s on your iPod/music player right now?
I’m very into Lily Allen and Leela James…these ladies have invaded all of my play lists.
What t.v. shows are you currently hooked on?
Friends on dvd…I play them on my computer as background noise.
What was the last movie you watched?
Hustle & Flow.
What’s your favorite food?
Apples and peanut butter at home and cinnamon toast at the local diner.
What’s your favorite candy?
Smarties…the American version and sour gummy worms.
Coffee or Tea?
Coffee in the am and tea in the pm.
What store could you walk around in for hours and be happy?
The Bottle Shop.
Any pets?
Yes, a Rat Terrier named Faye with whom I am madly in love with.
Favorite place to visit or place you’d like to visit?
I love visiting my families’ camp in NH, I make it there less and less as I get older, but I am trying to fix that.
If you could be a superhero, what would your name be and what would be your superpowers?
To sleep a full 8 hours in only 2 hours, I won’t go too crazy…but I cannot function on too little sleep and I always need more hours in the day.
Any celebrity crushes?
Adam Sandler and Jake Gyllenhaal
Favorite Holiday? Halloween…purely for the candy.
Favorite piece of clothing? A full skirt made from floral and pale pink cotton and the bottom has fruit embroidered around it in wool. I wear it spring through fall and have already had the zipper replaced…women always tell me they had a dress made from the same floral fabric when they were little girls and get a dreamy look in their eyes when they tell me this.
Do you speak any other languages? If not, would you like to learn one?
I do not, but am wishing recently that I could speak Spanish, I am having a tough time picking it up.
It’s already March! Any exciting plans for the rest of the year?
I am hoping to expand my wholesale accounts!
