Love is a new art book by the wonderful Samantha Hahn. It consists of 40 pages with 25 contributing artists that interpreted “love” in their own unique way. I think this would make a perfect gift for your sweetheart, anyone who appreciates art, the one who is in love with love, or even yourself.

Lace and Foxes.

How is your handwriting? Have you ever written a love letter to someone (or simply wanted to), looked down at the barely legible words you put down on the paper and gave up? Or maybe you couldn’t quite get your point across because the recipient couldn’t decipher what they were reading. Not to fear, because Betsy and Shanna have got your back. This Valentine’s Day, let Hello Handmade Paperie inscribe your personalized message in beautiful calligraphy on a letterpressed card they designed. They will even send your love note out directly to your sweetie. The other thing I love is that if you don’t have a special someone this year, you can order one for yourself and they’ll compose a love note just for you. We all deserve to feel special.

List Maker?

Are you a list maker? A maker of lists of things to do. Goals to complete. I do this all the time. Even though I have a phone that is capable of me making lists of what needs to be done on it, I hardly ever take advantage of this feature. Why? Because I have a thing for paper and I love writing my lists down with pen in hand. But what I love even more is being able to then take that pen and draw a line through my completed task. Oh, what a feeling! If you, too, are a fan of lists, then perhaps this may come in handy…

A Little Thank You…

goes a long way. If it’s alright, I just want to share a little story with you. It’s not a big deal, but it made me happy anyway. Today at work one of our regular customers came in. Before she left she said that coming in and seeing me each week is the best part of her day. She feels like she gets beaten down at her job and she looks forward to me smiling, greeting and chatting with her. That totally made my day. It made my week. Getting a compliment like that means so much to me. I always believe in the little things and always make it a point to offer more praise, support and compliments than not. I guess I’m just wired that way.

After work, I got on the Muni and headed home. The driver was great. She actually called out all of the stops along the route and announced all of the connecting lines. She even took the time to mention why we had to wait a couple minutes at one point. When I was at my stop I decided to go to the front of the bus and say thank you. I told her that she was the most pleasant driver and thanked her again. She gave me the nicest smile and said, “Thank you for appreciating, honey. Have a good night.” It’s just the little things. Just a little thank you.

The Beep Beep Song.

Here’s a little post for a friend who was kind enough to share his new favorite artist (Simone White) with me. I even got a copy of the CD and all! It’s currently being listened to as I type this and it’s making me pretty happy. So, this post is just for you (how cute is this video!?)…

Get To Know: Chrissy Wilbee of Boh Bon Soap Company

Oh, how I love handmade bath and body products! Let’s get to know our sponsor who is a magnificent soap maker.

chrissy

Meet Chrissy Wilbee of Boh Bon Soap Company:

Name: Chrissy Wilbee

Business Name: Boh Bon Soap Company

Where are you located?
Michigan

What is it that you design and create?
Handcrafted Soap

What is your favorite part of the design process?
Working with new ingredients, creating new recipes and seeing how the new creations come out.

How did you come up with your business name?
My sister and I were in Chicago, drinking blue margaritas on a ridiculously hot summer night a few years back. She was about to begin her venture into opening a business of her own and we were discussing what the future might hold. She had chosen the name “Hob Nob” for her business, Hob Nob being a nod to the corner grocery store our Grandfather owned in our youth. I joked that when I started my soap shop, I would name it “Boh Bon” (Hob Nob backwards) and we would both pay homage to Gramps. Three years later the soap was made and the name just stuck.

Who or what inspires you?
Nature, travel, friends, family…

What advice would you give other independent artists who are just starting out?
Don’t give up.

What is your favorite indie purchase or trade?

Although technically not a purchase or trade, I have a drawing of a favorite spot in Lisbon, Portugal a friend made for me which I love and is very sentimental to me.

What t.v. shows are you currently hooked on?
Top Chef

What was the last movie you watched?
Forgetting Sarah Marshall

What’s your favorite candy?
Peanut M&Ms

Coffee or Tea?
Both! Coffee in the morning, herbal tea at night.

Any pets?
No, but maybe soon!

Favorite place to visit or place you’d like to visit?
There are too many to name, but any where warm and sunny sounds nice right now!

Favorite Holiday?
Christmas

Do you speak any other languages? If not, would you like to learn one?

I speak very little Spanish, I do wish my foreign language skills were better.

Thanks so much for sharing with us, Chrissy. Please visit her shop if you’re in need of some great soaps. I have ordered from her in the past and have an order to place again shortly. The soaps are great for someone like me who is very sensitive to harsh ingredients.

girlhula.

It has been a while now since I have been following Andrea‘s fabulous blog. It’s full of amazing photographs that she takes on a daily basis. She has great little projects that she photographs and you kind of feel as if you’re living vicariously through the lens of her camera right along with her. Her shop, Hula70, just makes me smile. Here are a couple of my favorites (but who am I really kidding since they’re all my favorite!)…
