The adorable Leslie has just added new items to her shop, Feisty Elle. New brooches and hairclips are available in lovely colors and styles. I was excited when I first saw the Magenta Emi design offered and knew that more goodness was to come. She’s created laser-cut merino wool brooches that are oh-so-versatile. I am a huge fan of Leslie’s and always get compliments on the hair clip and brooch that I own from her previous collections. They are so well made and it’s just the little touch that any outfit needs.
Let’s be good to the trees and not actually carve into them. If you have an event coming up, why not let the folks at Toast create some custom favors for you. These Heart Stumps are great…
The old heart with the initials tree carving is classic and romantic. Toast offers this modern way of declaring your love without causing harm to the forest. Each handmade 100% biodegradable Heart Stump is personalzed with a faux wood carving of your initials and the date of your special day. You can purchase them empty so that you can fill them with whatever your heart desires, purchase them pre-filled with locally made chocolate macadamia nut candies (yum!), or filled with a handkerchief printed with a matching heart motif. Check out their site for more goodies and for more info.
Shauna and Stephen. I love them so much! I know, I know. It sounds familiar. You’re right. I say this every single time I feature something they’ve made. I can’t apologize for that and probably won’t stop either. Here’s a little something I meant to post last week about them that’ll have you loving them, too (if you don’t already!)…
Tell me you don’t want to move in with them!?! I do. No doubt.
ps – thanks to Tara Young for putting together such a fun video. This is a great new video series!
It’s been two years since the last round and I’m so excited it has returned. The goal of the Happily Handmade Giveaway is to spotlight indie businesses with a promotional opportunity that is affordable. Not only is participating easy and within your budget, but you can also reach new customers and build your mailing list. As a shopper, you can be handsomely rewarded for your continued support of indie businesses. You can feel good about making the conscious decision to shop indie and limit your big box purchases. The HHG has been around since 2004 and I can say that it really is worth it – both as a past participant and sponsor.
Through March 20, you can register to become a sponsor. Starting April 1, the entry period officially begins to enter to win fabulous prizes (all handmade, of course) worth around $250! Basically, this is a win-win situation for all. Check it out. You’ll be happy you did. I’ll be sure to keep you all updated.
How did you do with your week? Did the time switch throw anyone off? Well, I hope that you will all have a lovely weekend. Happy, happy Friday to you. Enjoy…
Here’s one of the first screen-prints that Diana made back from 2002. The poster has long been sold out, but she was able to get a stash of around 10 belonging to one of the original members of the band, Verbow, who are no longer together. This is an awesome print. It was even featured in the Art of Rock book.
ps – Andrew Bird fan? Well, Diana just made a poster for an Andrew Bird Austin City Limits show. There are a limited number of copies that may be available after the 18th (if any remain after the show!).
So, did you remember to make your time adjustments?
This weekend there’s a special sale over at ModCloth to celebrate the time change. Select clocks, watches and other keepers and tellers of time will be 25% off from 10 AM Sunday through Midnight on Monday.
First of all, can you tell us what you create?
My passion is making jewelry! Although I really enjoy creating anything and everything, so I have recently begun to expand the “Suzannemade†line to include my paintings, sewn goods (bags, etc), stationery, and a few other little goodies. I mostly sell my pieces in my online shop but about once a season I will participate in art and craft shows (sometimes I’ll even host my own, at home).
Do you do something crafty each day? Where does your inspiration come from?
I definitely try to do something creative every day – whether it’s taking pictures, baking and decorating cupcakes, making jewelry, drawing, sewing, etc – so I am pretty much always crafting up something!
I am inspired by so many things. Sometimes it’s as simple as the materials themselves that inspire me to make something out of them, sometimes it everything else… books, buildings, animals, trees, flowers, people, random objects, clouds in the sky…
There is a constant stream of new ideas popping into my head and I seem to have more ideas than the time to make them into reality so I try to keep lots of lists or sketches of to-do’s and to-make’s.
What’s your workspace like (organized)?
I wish I could say my workplace was this awesome studio somewhere, however, in reality it is just my little apartment. Usually either my kitchen table or coffee table! Technically our spare bedroom is supposed to be my “craft room†but I like to watch tv or listen to music while I work so I’ve ended up with charms, crystals, chains and tools all over the place now – but it’s organized chaos! I do try to keep some of my supplies somewhat organized, in one of those plastic chests of drawers – otherwise it would take my forever to find what I need!
How many hours does your normal work day consist of?
I work a full time office job, so my “crafting†work day is during evenings and weekends. I usually make stuff during the evenings throughout the week, then on the weekends I will take photos (as that’s the only time I am at home with natural light!) and post items on my shop.
How do you end your day of crafty business? Any evening rituals?
Usually I’ll have a mug of hot chocolate or a bowl of cereal, then make some lists of things I need to finish next, upload things onto my Flickr / Facebook / Twitter, and usually post on my blog (I am trying to get into the habit of posting at least 5 times per week). At bedtime I like to snuggle up with my kitty and husband and watch mind-numbing tv like TMZ – although lately I have also been watching Jimmy Fallon on late night – he cracks me up!
What is your definition of a perfect day?
A sunny autumn day and picnic at the beach with my husband.
Thanks so much, Suzanne! “Organized chaos” is something I can absolutely relate to. Crafting in a small apartment is often rough, but I’m glad you make it work!
If you’re interested in being featured, just let me know. I’d love to have you! Just send me an email (liana@mixedplateblog.com) if you’d like to learn more.
Sorry for not posting yesterday. Technical difficulties. I do have to tell you that I was at 444 Jessie Street last night (Mezzanine). Can you guess what I was doing there? Were you there? I’ll see if any of my pictures came out and will post more about it later.
You may have seen some of Jean Pelle‘s work in Readymade Magazine‘s February/March 2009 issue. But have you seen some of the other amazing handcrafted items? Everything is carved and assembled by Jean in Brooklyn, New York. Here’s a little taste…
How many bags does a girl need? Is there even an answer to that (silly, silly) question?! I’m already the proud owner of a Moop bag. Of course, I was poking around the blog and saw that there’s a new addition to the shop…
aloha! i’m Liana. this is my site. i am not a professional writer. i pretty much just write the way i talk. it’s fun meeting new online friends and introducing these amazing artists. i’ll do my best to keep you entertained.
