Today is a new day. It’s Monday. Most people typically don’t look forward to Mondays, but I am glad it’s here. Yesterday I was not in the best of moods and felt like I was close to the edge. I kept hoping the day would be over with and a new day would arrive. This morning I woke up and told myself, “Today WILL be better.” That’s my positive affirmation for Monday. Here are some lovely art pieces by Studio Mela {I knew I could turn to her shop for this} to lift your spirits {should you need them to be lifted}.
oh, and I know I’ve featured some of these before. and that’s ok. I just needed them. hope it’s ok with you, too…

I am not going to say too much about these because you know my love for Emily. I will say that if you don’t hurry they’ll be gone {if they aren’t already} and that I use my sketchbook to jot down ideas and inspirations.

I love the idea behind these Power To The Poster pieces by Micah Max. The Power To The Poster project is held to raise awareness to issues that the makers are passionate about. Micah chose to focus on interpersonal awareness. Genius, I say! Seems I’ve come across a bunch of people recently that may need to tear off a piece {perhaps more} of kindness. I’m thinking there may be days when I need to take a tab or two from the patience poster. Need to forgive anyone or be forgiven? Perhaps that’s the appropriate work of art. Which would you need today?

The weather here in San Francisco has been kind of nice recently {of course, as I type this there’s no sun to be seen}. It worries me, to be honest with you. Last year was my first year living in the Bay area and I can almost swear it was colder at this time. Maybe my memory fails me, though. Despite being sunny and warm, it’s never warm enough for me to actually throw on a bathing suit and jump in the water {unless it’s a pool, I guess}. But if I were tough enough to brave the cold waters of San Francisco, perhaps I’d like to dress in one of these handmade suits by LA Drama Queen {I love the models and photos, too!}. They are absolutely adorable…and a little sexy…

These paper owls that you can assemble yourself look pretty darn cute. WHO doesn’t like owls, right? So, I’m corny…so what.

Available via Mibo {£1.00}, a small design studio based on the south coast of England. What’s cool is that you don’t have to wait for your owls to arrive in the mail because you simply download the kit.

I am a big fan of Kate’s work. If you’re not familiar with her yet, get familiar. Her Obsessive Consumption art is based on personal consumerism. She draws out everything she purchases and you can see it all on her blog. Some exciting news is that today’s editions for 20×200 are drawings by Kate! Check it…
Drawings from July 2009 (one week) {there are other editions for July}:

I know, you’re sick of hearing me say this {or sick of reading it?}. But, I really do get excited when Jan announces the arrival of the newest Poppytalk Handmade Market. This month it’s all about back-to-school. I’m not headed back to school, but that doesn’t mean I can’t pick up a few things, right? This Marketplace will be up through September 18.

Hell Yes. I spent three days last week {in case you were wondering where I’ve been – why no Friday Favorites post} stuffing my brain with art. Some of the classes I took were Letterpress, Illustrator, InDesign, Screenprinting and Digital Workflow for Photographers, just to name a few. Yup, I took full advantage of having all these talented artists and teachers in one spot. I am so lucky to have bosses who are flexible and took off a couple of days just for the classes. It. Was. Amazing.
The downside is that on the first day I forgot to bring my camera. The second day I brought my camera but forgot to charge my battery. I know, I know. So, I’ll just have to share with you a couple of photos from Letterpress and Screenprinting that were taken on my phone. Not so great, but you’ll get the idea.
Letterpress Class was taught by the oh-so-talented Jordan Ferney. She teaches other letterpress classes throughout the year at her studio {which she shares with her husband, artist Paul Ferney, who taught the oil painting class}. You should definitely take a class with Jordan if you’re interested in this medium.

Andy Cane is such a cool guy. He and his wife just moved from San Francisco to Oregon a couple weeks ago. They came back just to teach this class. How nice! He gave us detailed instructions and I even scored a screen after class so I can be on my way to screenprinting bliss. Again, if you ever see a class of his offered, take it. He is a true DIYer and has so much knowledge to share.

Thank you so much to Nicole for organizing the whole weekend. It was a lot of work for her and she did an amazing job {AND taught classes, by the way}. Oh, and the other two fabulous teachers that taught the Illustrator, PhotoShop, InDesign, Cartooning For Kids, etc. classes are the husband and wife duo Mike and Alma Loveland. I wish that I could have a special hotline to their home so that I could pick their brains about all of the software they know so much about. Mahalo to all of the teachers! ART Weekend rocked!!!
