I’ll start this post with an apology. I really do hope that I do not offend anyone who will be hitting malls or stores with huge sales. I know people that do this and it’s fine by me if that’s their {or your thing}. For me, getting in line the night before or at midnight for the famous day after Thanksgiving sales is just not my idea of fun. I can’t deal with the crowds and there really isn’t anything I need or want that badly anyway. I understand that maybe if I had children the story would be different. Anyway, the kind of shopping I would be up for is the kind where I could shop indie and be in my pajamas as I’m saving. Here are some of the places that you can find some great deals at to kick-start your holiday shopping…
First off…uh, hello Mixed Plate Holiday Gift Guide!

Many of the participants have offered up amazing discounts for Mixed Plate readers!

Over at the fabulous Bake and Destroy, Natalie is marking down shirts {just $15 – other colors available} and sweaters {just $30} on Friday only. I got my shirt, what about you?

Marilyn of Pulp Sushi is offering free shipping starting Black Friday through Cyber Monday. This includes shipping on international orders as well!

Rebecca of elpy [Handcrafted] shared that almost all of the items in her shop will be $2, $4, $6, or $8 off! This sale will run Friday through Monday.

Michelle of Michabella Creations is offering free worldwide shiping and a free gift with purchase starting Black Friday through Cyber Monday.

$1 shipping {US orders only} over at one of my favorite shops, Sublime Stitching. Thanks, Jenny!

If you’re a fan of the ‘stache, head over to Fuzzy Ink. The guys are giving you 25% off everything for just 24 hours. Of course, they’ll have a smaller discount that will carry over during the weekend and may even offer up a reduction on Cyber Monday {but you’ll have to check in to find out}.

Mimie of miSPA is encouraging a “no stress” way of holiday shopping. She’s giving you 25% off all items with code “thanks25” {enter at checkout}.

Over at ModCloth there will be discounts of up to 40% in their We’re Thankful For You…Black Friday Sale. For four days starting Friday they’ll cut prices on select items and new sale items will be added daily.

Cyd of Smock {you know how I feel about letterpress} let me know they’re having a Green Friday Sale! 50% of the proceeds from all sales made this Friday on the site will be donated to the Amazon Conservation Association.

Barbe of Saints & Sinners is having a sale of 25% off everything starting 12:01 am Friday through midnight Monday.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you who are celebrating the day. My plans are…I have no plans. Well, other than having signed up for a workout class this morning {am I crazy?}, probably hitting up a favorite restaurant {gotta get in some kind of over-eating today!}, and relaxing {yet here I am doing work and catching up on emails}.
The truth is that I’m not a huge holiday person. Do I appreciate those days of the year and respect the fact that my friends and family want to celebrate them? Of course. Do I participate with them in every way I can? Sure. But since I’m away from home I feel it’s alright to just be, if that makes any sense. I will tell you that I am thankful for many things. Not just today because it’s Thanksgiving, but all the time. I’m definitely lucky to have loving family and friends. While the circumstance for my recent trip home to Hawaii wasn’t the best, I am glad I got to spend a couple of days with loved ones. I even got to meet my new nephew. How fortunate am I to have a job right now. A job that is fun with two super cool bosses who have turned in to a family away from home. I get to meet a lot of new people each day and when looking out my window at work, see people that make me smile. I am an entrepreneur and have the freedom to create. I have a roof over my head. I am in good health.
AND…Of course I am oh-so-very thankful for you. I appreciate that you stop on by to visit me day after day. That you send me kind emails and comments and continue to encourage me. Your kindness and excitement for handmade is what keeps me wanting to bring you more on Mixed Plate. I hope that you will enjoy your long holiday weekends, whatever way you choose to celebrate it. Mahalo.
Lots of Aloha…liana
ps – I’m hoping to eat one of these today…

As I type this post I’m sitting here at the airport in San Francisco waiting for my {delayed} flight. First flight of the morning and it’s late? At least I have my laptop to keep me company. And all of you, of course! So I thought it would be appropriate to feature something from home {Hawaii – where I’m headed}. I love the brilliance behind Toast‘s new Leaf a Note {$10.00} design. These stationery filled tins come not only with notepads, but a #2 pencil and leaf magnets. How cute would that look on your desk!

What does this card make you think of…

This All Valley Champion card {$3.50} by one of my favorites, Earmark Stationery, totally made me crack up this morning. Yes, it was inspired by Mr. Miyagi’s best student. But if you’re an obsessed fan of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia {such as myself}, you’ll know it from a certain episode {one that’s high up on my list of bests}. The reason it got me laughing so much is that yesterday a friend and I were on the phone discussing that very episode and talking about how funny the scene is where this song was played. Do you know the episode I’m referring to? Anyway, thought it might be a fun start to your Monday morning. It sure made me smile!

The 2009 Holiday Season, folks. I’m a little torn because part of me says “ugh” and I will admit a little “bah humbug”, while the other part of me is happy. The scrooge part of me isn’t big on holidays where people feel like they are forced to celebrate and buy things for others {like on V-Day} and lose the spirit of the day. But, of course, I do love my friends and family and can never let go of that feeling of wanting to surprise them with a little something that I’ve wrapped up all nice for them. That’s the part of me that loves when the holidays roll around because that means wonderful artists and designers have created a bunch of new things. Enter Mixed Plate’s 2009 Holiday Gift Guide!

Have you had a chance to check it out yet? It’s been up for a couple of weeks now. You must see all of the handmade goodness in this year’s guide. The participants have also generously offered exclusive discounts for Mixed Plate readers. So go on and take advantage of that, find your loved ones {or yourself} a little something and help support indie this {and every} holiday season.
