Well, hey there, Friday! I bet many of you are glad it’s the weekend. Sorry for the lack of Friday Favorites the last two weeks. Things have been a little crazy so I decided it’d be best to just take it easy and bring it back today. I may have to fly back home to Hawaii for a few days next week for some family time, so I’ll do my best to keep up with emails and posts as much as possible. I hope that you will all have a lovely weekend. Have a Happy, Happy Aloha Friday!

I bet your composition book in school never looked this good…

How fabulous, right?! These notebooks by Letters Lubell are letterpress printed front and back in black soy ink and on recycled brown board stock. Each book contains 50 blank pages. So much for those black and white marble composition books we all used to carry around in school {I remember “coloring” mine in with highlighters}. As if I don’t already have a good amount of notebooks in my possession. Hey, I don’t have any composition books, so that’d be ok, huh?

So I’ve been following Melisser of The Urban Housewife and her journey to opening the doors of her San Francisco based vegan bakery, Sugar Beat Sweets. I was more excited when I saw Natalie of my beloved Bake and Destroy post about this opportunity for all of us to help out. The bakery will be the source for egg- and dairy-free artisan yummy goodness that uses organic and local ingredients whenever possible. Melisser started Sugar Beat Sweets back in 2007 as a custom order and wholesale bakery. She’s currently working to open the city’s first all-vegan and women-owned bakery storefront along with co-owners Jordan, Erika, and Jennifer. Exciting! Wanna help out? Check out this shirt collabo with Herbivore Clothing Company. A brilliant fundraising shirt. Proceeds from the sales will help in the opening process. These gals are not only talented bakers but also give a lot of their time to animal rights groups, so please help spread the word.
You know you want this shirt…

Last night I twittered that I was cold and in kind of a bummer mood and asked if it’d be okay for me to crawl into bed and just hibernate. The good news is that I was given the thumbs up by some of you to do so. That was before 6:00pm and while I really wish I had done so, I didn’t. There was work to be done {like this post} and I tried to maintain a positive attitude. I thought I’d share something that usually helps cheer me up with you – Animals {usually dogs}. I’ve always loved these images of real live animals taken by Sharon Montrose. Most of these guys live at animal sanctuaries and rescue organizations and others are privately owned pets. So. Good.
Baby Porcupine:

Piglet:

Basset Hound Puppy:

Reindeer:

Otter:

Baby Sheep (Lamb):

Miniature Donkey:

Prairie Dogs:

All of the above prints are $25.00 and are small open editions of Sharon’s work. For large, limited edition prints, check out The Animal Print Shop.

Last week I saw this post on A Cup of Jo about autistic artist Stephen Wiltshire. He basically took a twenty-minute ride over Manhattan via helicopter and then sketched the entire skyline from memory {yes, that says from memory}. He has also done the same for Tokyo, Rome, Hong Kong, Frankfurt, Madrid, Dubai, Jerusalem and London and each time they are incredibly accurate and full of detail. Truly. absolutely amazing and impressive.
