Things may be a little quiet here on Mixed Plate for the next week or so. I just flew in to Hawai’i yesterday to spend some time with my family. My sister, who hasn’t been home in years, came from Florida to meet me in San Francisco and we headed over to O’ahu together. Has the eating frenzy of all things we miss while we’re away begun? Absolutely. Today my sister and I are going to hang out and cruise around the island. Hope you all had a great weekend!

I want to have a green thumb. I really do. In my little apartment I currently have one terrarium that I haven’t managed to kill off just yet. Previously, I had this great moss plant that I was assured was very easy to keep and care for. Guess who killed it? I honestly do want to be a good plant mommy, so I wonder if Katie‘s beautiful terrariums would be something I could handle…

While Katie is working on a full site for her shop, Botany Factory, you can find her terrariums here.

Years ago I had a serious candle obsession. I had tons of candles in different shapes, sizes, scents {when my nose wasn’t so sensitive} and colors. There was even a nice selection of candle holders to go along with said candles. Once I realized the quantity I had accumulated and was about to move to another place I significantly downsized my stash. Now I have one candle that actually burns and three others that I can’t stand to let go because they still have wax in their jars. See, I’ve been buying the ones in jars or tins so that I won’t get in on the purchasing of the holders. Although, maybe I could make an exception for these, right?

These Letterpress Mixed Candles by Bird and Bee Candles are pretty fun, right? They would be perfect for a designer, letterpress lover, paper fan, next to the tub, in the kitchen, for you, for me, all of us…You get my point. The sets range from around $18.00 – $45.00 depending on what you choose and how many candles you get {go for a custom set!}.

Yesterday I didn’t have the chance to post anything. Not because I was not in the mood, but because of the good old slow internet speed I was {once again} experiencing. I had to call up my provider. That’s always a good time. So rather than posting a photo of myself pulling my hair out and yelling {there were unpleasant words coming out of this girl’s mouth} I figured this would be a nicer alternative. What if you could use this button anytime you had an internet issue and the internet fairy would come and solve it?

Brooke is a Brooklyn-based photographer. So the name of her company is Brookelyn Photography, of course {cute, right?}! While hanging out at her site I stumbled upon this lovely set of photos. I adore her style and suddenly want to search for a treehouse. Who’s with me?

check out some other shots Brooke took of Toby and Kelli‘s special day. so beautiful.

Each time I see that Ban.do is working on a new line I just know that it means we are all in for a treat. I watch for photos that Jen and Jamie post via Twitter and imagine how they’ll incorporate the found treasures in each piece. The newest Black Label collection has just launched today and it is, of course, extremely stunning. The couture line is made using very limited vintage materials and embellishments or are one-of-a-kind and are definitely worth saving up for. These cream of the crop designs are also looking especially beautiful atop Alison Sudol’s striking red hair {yes, that’s Alison as in A Fine Frenzy!}…

I know this is something I’ve stated before here, but I love office supplies. Love. Especially cute ones like fancy Italian staplers, notebooks, handmade scissors {bought my pair at Castle in the Air}, fountain pens, adorable paper clips, and so on. You get the point. I just know that there are so many other office supply fanatics out there, too. Maybe this EightHourDay letterpress print {$20.00} would be perfect for you…

Holy mother. Last night I went to see The Dead Weather perform at The Fillmore. It. Was. Awesome.

Excuse the non-flash photos. It’s tough trying to capture great shots with concert lighting, an average digital point-and-shoot and, oh yeah, while you’re trying to rock out. If you had seen my tweet about getting tickets to a show, this was what I was referring to. I was worried because both nights of the show were sold out and I had been desperately searching and resorted to hunting on Craigslist {I may or may not have a serious Jack White addiction}. My concern was that I had never bought tickets off there before. I got a response from a woman who said they were still available. Great! She gave me her number and I called and we arranged a meeting yesterday morning. On the phone I had asked if she was attending the show and she said she was not. Rather than being hard tickets they were printed off her computer. Hmmm. Should I be suspicious? I mean, I’m a pretty trusting person but I was about to hand over cash and I wouldn’t really know the tickets were legit until I got to The Fillmore. Anyway, I did some research and went for it. I met her yesterday morning and she told me it would be fine and that the tickets belonged to her son who was now grounded. Thank you for being a disciplinarian! Score for me! I handed her my cash. I went to the show. Got patted down. Handed over my ticket. It scanned! Success! Again, it was an amazing show. I’d definitely go again if I had tickets for tonight’s show. If you’re hitting Coachella, do not miss their performance.

Hi there! Today’s color post will be all about orange. I figured it would be a nice follow up to last week’s yellow set {too bad I don’t have any orange nail polish to match like I did last week}. Hope you enjoy this bright, happy, shiny feature…
