Leslie had told me a while back that she was coming up with new earring designs. I, of course, am one of her biggest fans and couldn’t wait to see what she was working on. I got so excited when they came out that it almost slipped my mind to share them with you…
Cute, right? These are made of merino wool felt just like the other ones I’ve featured and are totally lightweight. The Stacked Leaf Earrings {$45.00} are now offered in new colorcombinations. Then there’s the Feather style {$30.00} which is fun because you can wear these earrings two different ways. The feather has a curve design to add dimension and to allow you to loop the bottom into the hoop for a second look. Beautiful!
Um. Okay. So last night I stumbled upon this photo while prepping for tomorrow’s color feature. I thought it was so awesome that it had to have a post of its own.
That is a real clock, people. Apparently, Kayanna found it at a Goodwill. Can you imagine finding this beauty while browsing a thrift store?! What luck!
ps – Check out Kayanna’s shop, June craft, for some art, toys, and home goods.
I love, love, love this girl. When I did my Blog It Forward post (thanks again, Victoria!), I mentioned Katie as being a huge inspiration to me. If ever there is a moment I am feeling down I can always count on her site and artwork to make me smile. She is creative, full of life and looks like someone you would just want to hang out with. All the time. I’m so happy that she had a little bit of time away from her smile bringing to share her life with us.
First of all, can you tell us what you create?
I create fun, whimsical photographs! My blog is a combination of street art, crafty projects, and silly pictures.
How do you being your day? Any morning rituals?
I always start my day in the kitchen since it’s the brightest room in the house. I make coffee, feed the birds on my fire escape to entertain my cat Moo, and then do a quick clean of the room. My head is messy if my apartment is messy.
Do you do something crafty each day? Where does your inspiration come from?
I do something crafty almost everyday. I just love making things with my hands. I get inspiration from absolutely everything!
What’s your workspace like {organized}?
I wake up with a clean workspace, then I make a complete mess throughout the day, then I clean it all up right after.
How many hours does your normal work day consist of?
Every day I’m working on something different but I’m usually working from the time I wake up till really late at night. It’s actually difficult not to be working on something because my job and my hobbies are the same thing!
How do you end your day of crafty business? Any evening rituals?
I like to watch old movies with my boyfriend late at night. We have a projector in our back room which makes it feel like we’re at the movies. I sometimes like to act with the actors on screen ;)
What is your definition of a perfect day?
Coming up with a fun idea in the morning and being able to execute it the same day. It feels like such an accomplishment!
Thanks so much, Katie! You really do bring joy to so many lives and I always look forward to seeing what new art you’ll create.
If you’re interested in being featured, just let me know. You can send me an email {liana@mixedplateblog.com} if you’d like to learn more.
At work I’m on my feet all day and usually walk a lot. So it’s easy to see why high-heeled shoes don’t exactly play a large role in my wardrobe. I mean, standing at work and often stepping on and off of a foot stool along with hoofing it around the city streets {and hills, don’t forget the hills!} really do not call for me slipping into any stilettos, right? I am, of course, always on the hunt for flats that are comfy and cute. I never thought about moccasins until I came across Katie‘s shop, Darlingtonia Moccasin Company. Each pair is made by hand and sewn on an entirely manual antique sewing machine {so awesome, check out her Singer 29k here}. I love the intricate detailing and think these would make a sweet addition to any girl’s shoe collection…
ps – I had wanted to mention the beautiful packaging that Katie does. Each pair of moccasins is sent packaged in a reusable hand stamped cotton drawstring bag inside a hand screenprinted box. If that isn’t another reason to get your pair…
I just have to say that I am really excited that this show is back. Do you watch it?
My sister has already texted me that it’ll be airing soon {she lives in Florida}. No one tell me what happens, please. I’ll have to wait until it’s posted online tomorrow. Sometimes having no television sucks. :o(
Do you like rubber stamps? A while back I had this thing where I kept saying I would never get in to the whole rubber stamping hobby. I didn’t need to spend more money on crafty things and I just know myself. Once I find a new love, I get obsessed. This is why I try not to become too much of a collector of things. If I start, I’ll have to have it all. Can you relate? Anyway, of course it didn’t last and because I had taken up paper crafts and scrapbooking, naturally the stamps crept their way to my craft supply drawers.
But before leaving Hawaii to move to San Francisco, I had to take a good look at what I had and purged a lot of things. I knew that I wanted to donate items to a place that could really use what I had accumulated. I mean, I had spent money on these things and they were pretty new and really cute. I ended up gifting loads of paper, stamps, inks, pens, pencils, and even shelving units to a wonderful non-profit organization called Keiki Cards. Volunteers around the world would create handmade greeting cards and send them to the Keiki Cards staff who would write special messages in them to children who had life-threatening illnesses. They would add little fun things in the cards as well. What they were doing was really amazing and I am sad to learn that they have since closed due to lack of funding. I currently don’t have a large rubber stamp collection {maybe just a couple things for when I make gifts}. But each time I see something new that San Francisco husband and wife team Christine Schmidt and Evan Gross of Yellow Owl Workshop puts out, it makes me think that I’ll happily start the obsession all over again.
sets are $11.50 each
sorry if I took a little detour with this post. I really did want to talk about Keiki Cards. They were great.
Mother and daughter team, Tamara and Shea, have launched their Spring Collection over at Old Soul, New Heart. The current designs show off fabric, sequins, re-worked vintage chains and, of course, lots and lots of pretty…
Last night as I left the day job I got poured on. I mean, it was already raining for most of the day but it had stopped long enough for me to have hope that I’d make it home dry. Not a chance. Then as I sat in my apartment doing work the hail began to beat against my window and did so again around 2am. Sheesh! I wonder how it’ll be today. Wishing you a happy {and warm and dry} Monday. Maybe I need a cute umbrella like this one…
Hello, my loves! How did your week go? I feel like I’ve been so consumed with trying to cross things off my {never-ending} to-do list that the week was like a blur. I hardly remember what I did or even wore yesterday. I hope your week went well and that your weekend will be even better. Have a Hap, Happ, Happy Aloha Friday!
I saw this adorable video that Rachel and Jordan posted the other day. The Girls with Glasses Show is a project that is still in the works and is going to be what the world needs – a smart girl talk show. Brooke White and Summer Bellessa will bring this semi-variety talk show to light through humor, offer intelligent insight to fashion, entertainment, art and music. I think it sounds great!
Cute, right?
ps – the music in the video {their theme song} is an original piece that was co-written by Brooke and Summer. Brooke is on vocals and piano and Summer on drums and back-up. So talented!
I kept seeing that folks were using bloglovin’ to keep track of all the blogs they like to read. I have to be honest. It’s confession time. Even though I’m online so much doing work and research I am completely unorganized in keeping up with the blogs and sites I like. So I asked via my Twitter {go on, follow me} what everyone uses – Google Reader or bloglovin’. It was kind of a tie. So I thought I’d finally start checking and testing both of them out.
aloha! i’m Liana. this is my site. i am not a professional writer. i pretty much just write the way i talk. it’s fun meeting new online friends and introducing these amazing artists. i’ll do my best to keep you entertained.
