Anyone who is in San Francisco tonight should stop on by The Candy Store. They are having another party and local confectioner Nina Wanat of Bon Bon Bar will be there sampling out her delicious handmade goodies…
Nina makes some of The Candy Store‘s most sought-after items. Each week she creates {and often hand delivers} small batches of passion fruit and vanilla bean marshmallows, caramel nut bars, and cult favorite {and The Candy Store exclusive} caramallows for the shop. And each week they sell out. Trust me when I say that everything she makes is ridiculously tasty. Take it from a girl who never thought she even cared about marshmallows…you will be a fan. At the event tonight, not only will she have all of the above mentioned treats, but also some other fabulous candy bars available for you to try and even purchase {yes, it’ll be that good}. I’ll be in attendance so I hope to see you there. Stop in and say hello!

There were a couple of posts on Mixed Plate that I’ve done regarding wallpaper {how do you feel about it?}. With so many artists lending their eye for design to wallpaper companies, you really can’t go wrong. I’m finding more and more that I would enjoy seeing every morning when I wake up and every evening when I walk through the door. I am really excited about the launch of the Oh Joy!collection for Hygge & West…
Have you seen the Turner Classic Movies Poster Project? Illustrator Michael Schwab recently launched it via the TCM “Summer Under the Stars” site along with creative director Rob Reed of 1 Trick Pony. Iconic films and their silhouetted stars grace the posters…
Today it is supposed to be around 80 degrees here in the Bay Area and even warmer tomorrow. While there are people who hate the heat, I have a smile on my face. I am a Hawaii girl, you know, and I dream of days when the sun is shining and my fingers and toes aren’t frozen. My guess is that people will call in sick and head to the beach {and others will be lounging shirtless at the parks – you know what I’m talking about}. Oh, to be at a beach back home…

Yes. It has happened again. Each year I am embarrassed that I let this little blog’s birthday come and go. I took a look back and realized why it had slipped my mind. My mom was visiting me around that time. And I was gearing up for Renegade. And on the night that Mixed Plate turned 4, I went to see The Dead Weather {again}. So, all excuses aside…Happy Birthday, Mixed Plate!
Thank you to all of you, my friends, for coming to visit each day. I appreciate your support and encouragement more than you know. I love that you come to hang out with me, share your thoughts, and that we can enjoy these handmade finds together. You are the reason I continue to blog late at night and sometimes during the wee hours of the morning.
I am headed over now to purchase my copy of Creative, Inc. It’s the new book that is “The Ultimate Guide to Running a Successful Freelance Business” by Meg Mateo Ilasco and Joy Deangdeelert Cho {two of my favorites!}. I’m so excited that they are also embarking on a little book tour with stops in San Francisco {hooray!}, Los Angeles, and New York. Check out this adorable stop-motion film that Meg and Joy created with Thayer Allyson Gowdy…
This book is a definite must. Purchase your copy via Chronicle Books.
ps – the music for the film was provided by the ultra-talented susie ghahremani.
I am pretty sure that I’ve shared the fact that this apartment finally has a few art pieces put up. Also up are my vintage framed chalkboard and an inspiration board. But the walls are sad and white. Yes, I am one of those people who follow the lease rules and am a big scaredy cat and never paint. It’s the second apartment I’ve lived in since moving to San Francisco and the first…well, NOTHING went on the walls there! Since I’ve been such a huge fan of all things Shanna Murray, these illustrated wall and window decals have been on my radar for some time now. Biggest problem? Narrowing down the choices…
Sometimes people just don’t get it. Like, babies, for example. So, you have to send them messages. Subliminal messages…
They’re great, right? I just saw the Subliminal Baby Series letterpress posters over at Eva’s shop, Sycamore Street Press. I think they would be funny gifts for new moms and dads.
So, perhaps the title should really be “colors” today. I am really feeling homesick and miss the sun so much. It’s been fairly dreary here in San Francisco. I think the last really sunny weekend was when my mom was visiting. If you’ve never been to the city in July and August…well, let’s just say that you wouldn’t really know it’s summer. The fog has been giving us some misty/drizzle-type stuff and so I thought lots of color for today’s feature would be a nice little pick-me-up. Happy Thursday!
At the Renegade Fair here in San Francisco a couple weeks back I quickly scanned Hillary Bird‘s booth. I fell in love instantly! Since I was with a friend who was there for a limited amount of time I decided to breeze through the show quickly and then return to visit with crafters after she had left. Well, I had meant to check back in with Hillary and missed her {I know she was busy when I passed by again}. Needless to say, I was absolutely kicking myself after. I mean, I wanted one of everything…
aloha! i’m Liana. this is my site. i am not a professional writer. i pretty much just write the way i talk. it’s fun meeting new online friends and introducing these amazing artists. i’ll do my best to keep you entertained.
