hammocks & high tea just launched their spring/summer 2011 collection of eco-friendly textile goods. tea towels, napkins, drawer liners, pillows, totes and dopp kits are available now in the shop…
oh joy. it’s valentine’s day. wait, did you catch that sarcasm? the other day i saw a couple of friends sitting outside of the coffee shop near work and i said how busy i was going to be since it’s leading up to the hallmark holiday. and i, of course, threw in a snarky “yeah, valentine’s day” {maybe using a little ben stein way-of-saying-things}. one of them turned to me and he said, “bitter?”…
i’m not bitter. not really. i truly am a romantic. i believe in love. i, like many of us, have been hurt by those we trust and care for and whom we thought felt the same for us. but it’s alright. it isn’t the reason i dislike the “holiday”. it’s because…
that’s right. i don’t need a specific day to share my feelings and show how much you all mean to me. hope you’ll have a happy valentine’s day no matter how you feel about it. in fact, just have a happy monday!
i guess i was so preoccupied with other things that i slipped up and missed posting about the newest issue of contrast magazine…

hey, all! how was your week? mine was definitely loaded with some ups and downs. and while the downs felt like i couldn’t turn them around, i took a step back and realized how lucky i am to have one of the best friends ever. one of my newest friends has quickly become one of my dearest, and being able to see her almost every day has gotten me through it. do you have a friend like that? one that just being around them can lift your spirits? i hope you do. i also hope that you will have a fantastic weekend. and have a happy, happy aloha friday!
in place of today’s color post, i have decided to feature a pattern. that’s right, folks! now in you can look forward to either a carefully curated collection of color or pattern images of inspiration each thursday. of course, in light of it being valentine’s day on monday, i figured it would only be appropriate to have hearts as our “pattern” of the week…
mixed plate is now accepting sponsors for the month of march! hooray!

i have had the pleasure of working with caroline and al of beyond the rockz in the past as sponsors and participants of our fabulous holiday gift guides. and how lucky are we that they have offered a beautiful handmade ring as a giveaway for one of mixed plate’s readers! let me introduce you to what you could win…
gorgeous, right? this pretty little antique bird embossed recycled sterling silver ring {a $50.00 value!} is made from caroline and al’s collection of antique english steel stamps. the ring is made entirely from recycled sterling silver and is not cast but rather handmade at al’s bench.
wanna win?…

the contest starts today and will end in one week on thursday, february 17. i will select a winner at random and will post it here the following day.
i realize this may seem a bit out of the ordinary since i really don’t feature large companies. it isn’t because there aren’t any that i care for. and it isn’t that i don’t ever purchase anything from larger stores. but this space is primarily used to show my support for the small guys. people like you. people like me. for example, i don’t know if i’ve ever mentioned this before, but while i love bags, i never buy any higher-end fancy label ones. partly because they simply do not fall within my budget and partly because i am a handmade bag kinda gal. i have, however, said to more than one friend that the brand i really adore and would splurge on pieces from, would be kate spade. the design of the bags, clothing and accessories are classic and the colors…well, i always smile when i pass by one of their shop windows. and i will admit that i have recently developed an obsession for kate spade’s socks, leggings and tights {i may be wearing a pair of recently acquired socks as i type this}.
with all that said, this really does belong on mixed plate. i recently saw via kate spade’s twitter that they have an e-card gallery with artwork from fabulous artists and designers, some you may already know via the blogosphere {since i have featured a few here before}.
in my tiny apartment, i am always looking for ways to keep things organized. how do you keep all of your things in its place while having some sort of style that you are happy with? i just came across this piece…
how was your weekend? did you watch the superbowl? i was at work and heard all the cheers from folks hanging out at the many sports bars that line the street nearby. the weather was so gorgeous the last couple of days {it almost made me nervous, as i think it’s unusual for this time of year here}.
to give you a little monday morning boost of inspiration, give this feist video a go. it’s the trailer for her documentary, look at what the light did now. she is such a talented artist and musician and the team of people she works with are equally creative and bring her songs to life. i know firsthand because i saw her in concert a couple of years ago and it really was like a fabulous art project.
aloha! i’m Liana. this is my site. i am not a professional writer. i pretty much just write the way i talk. it’s fun meeting new online friends and introducing these amazing artists. i’ll do my best to keep you entertained.
