Oh, Baby!
Co-creators Leigh and Lyn are two mommas who decided to make great kids clothing and live out their dream! Leigh is a stay-at-home mom and Lyn is a mother and designer. The two best friends used their great ideas, creativity and hopes of comfort and coolness for their children to start New For Baby – the answer for a hip baby’s first wardrobe. Born out of frustration of newborn clothes that didn’t fit, didn’t have the right features and just were not hip, Leigh and Lyn decided it was time to do something – they created the perfect layette!

Read This!
The other night while strolling through Borders I noticed a cute little book with adorable graphics on the cover. The book, titled The Octonauts, was written and illustrated by Meomi, a team of Vicki Wong of Vancouver and Michael Murphy of Los Angeles. The same night I received an email from Amy of Immedium asking that I share this book with Mixed Plate readers.
Together Vicki and Michael specialize in Critter design, as it is their passion. Meomi has illustrated for Google, Mattel and Time Out Magazine and creates a full line of paper goods, apparel and merchandise. The book is available nationwide and at specialty retailers such as the SF MOMA, SF Asian Art Museum, and the GGNRA Warming Hut Cafe…oh, and Borders!
The Octonauts are a crew of adorable animals who roam the ocean in search of fun and adventure. What is said to resemble something that is part Hello Kitty and part Star Trek, this book will entertain children and adults of all ages.
I really wish that I were a child again because the books are better than ever! Go and Read It!

I Wanna Stomp My Feet!
Don’t you ever feel that way? When Karen told me about her site I told her that I wanted to get a pair of boots and stomp around through the rain. If only it would rain here more!

Inspired by Lily…
In May of 2004 Liliputians, an indie designer label, was born in New York City with the arrival of Heather‘s daughter Lily Belle. Lily is her mom’s inspiration behind all of the unique handmade items on the site. This line of boutique children’s clothing is a reflection of Heather’s love for art, vintage designs, whimsical themes, bright colors and more.

“Big Fashion For Little People”
Cara is a woman who loves to shop. She took her love of shopping and combined it with her search for cool maternity and kid gear and opened her online shop. Finding things for her son to wear that reflected her personality and taste was a challenge that she was ready to take on. At Urban Baby Runway you’ll find everything from diaper bags and maternity wear to hip baby and toddler clothing. There’s fun gifts for the little guys and playful attire for little gals.
Urban Baby Runway is based in Baltimore City where Cara lives with her husband and son, Julian. She launched the site in June of 2006 and also has two fun blogs that she runs. Michelle started Pitter Patter Creations when she wasn’t able to find practical, yet pretty, gifts for expectant friends and family members. She decided that diaper cakes were the way to go. Every new parent needs diapers, right? That’s just the foundation of the cake. Then the essentials that are, well….Essential for every newborn! What a smart idea. Michelle’s daughter Taylor and husband Herman provide great inspiration on her creations.

Let’s Monkey Around
At The Monkey and Me you can find some of the cutest handmade clothing for your very own little monkey. Beth is a true craftster – she’s an art teacher! That’s right, she brings out the creativity in youngsters. I love that about her!
The Monkey and Me was created in the spring of 2004 and has been bringing smiles to parents and their children ever since. Starting with burp cloths for her son, her business grew and has continued strong.
You have to check out her designs. Although they are bibs, burpies, play aprons and clothing for your kids, you’ll soon find yourself asking, “Hey, does that come in my size?”. Oh, and did I mention that there’s even birthday wear? How cute is that?

That’s so Cherry!
Cherry Momma is s-w-e-e-t! The site launched in early 2006 by stay-at-home momma, Leila. Her daughter, Eliza Jane, was her inspiration for getting this business started. Through Cherry Momma, Leila was able to explore the world of cute clothing for kids (and their parents) with more of an edge to them. Her love of things like tattoos, flames, skulls and rock-n-roll are apparent when browsing through her site.
Leila has so many things that she’s made that you and your kids are sure to enjoy. Blankets, clothing, pocket mirrors and more is what you’ll find.
