You may have noticed that there haven’t been as many posts recently. My wonderful day job has been quite busy for all of us involved. I’ve been working extra hours and finally realized that I should take some time to get sleep whenever I could squeeze it in. So, in order to take care of myself I’ve been put on a time out. Yes, I put myself on a time out. I just wanted to let you know that I have been trying to post whenever possible and have one for you today. After this week things should get back to normal. Hope you’re all doing well! I’ll respond to your emails soon!

Mark your calendars. Sign up to participate. Become a sponsor. Just celebrate. The Happily Handmade Giveaway is back!

It’s been two years since the last round and I’m so excited it has returned. The goal of the Happily Handmade Giveaway is to spotlight indie businesses with a promotional opportunity that is affordable. Not only is participating easy and within your budget, but you can also reach new customers and build your mailing list. As a shopper, you can be handsomely rewarded for your continued support of indie businesses. You can feel good about making the conscious decision to shop indie and limit your big box purchases. The HHG has been around since 2004 and I can say that it really is worth it – both as a past participant and sponsor.
Through March 20, you can register to become a sponsor. Starting April 1, the entry period officially begins to enter to win fabulous prizes (all handmade, of course) worth around $250! Basically, this is a win-win situation for all. Check it out. You’ll be happy you did. I’ll be sure to keep you all updated.

Get ready, all…

If you’re a crafty person wanting in on the action, click here for your vendor application. This year, BUST Magazine will be featuring 50 of the best indie designers and crafters, drinks, dancing, DJs, a green garden of craftiness, guerilla gardening demos where you can learn how to grown your own food and more. Hmmmm…maybe I can go on a mini vacation to New York in May…

Sorry about the delay in posts. My internet connection was misbehaving yesterday so I’m a bit behind on things. If you’ve emailed me, I’ll be getting back to you soon! Thanks for your patience.

That are ginger.

I found this site via Design for Mankind and think it’s great. Remember to check out the Beard Trumps page, too (super fun!).

goes a long way. If it’s alright, I just want to share a little story with you. It’s not a big deal, but it made me happy anyway. Today at work one of our regular customers came in. Before she left she said that coming in and seeing me each week is the best part of her day. She feels like she gets beaten down at her job and she looks forward to me smiling, greeting and chatting with her. That totally made my day. It made my week. Getting a compliment like that means so much to me. I always believe in the little things and always make it a point to offer more praise, support and compliments than not. I guess I’m just wired that way.
After work, I got on the Muni and headed home. The driver was great. She actually called out all of the stops along the route and announced all of the connecting lines. She even took the time to mention why we had to wait a couple minutes at one point. When I was at my stop I decided to go to the front of the bus and say thank you. I told her that she was the most pleasant driver and thanked her again. She gave me the nicest smile and said, “Thank you for appreciating, honey. Have a good night.” It’s just the little things. Just a little thank you.

Have you ever told someone that you “love them more than…”? Or maybe you’ve gone back and forth with the old “I love you more.” bit. I have. In fact, I’ve been in more of a romantical mood recently and have been drawn to more lovey-dovey than normal. Perhaps it’s all the Valentine’s Day love-themed items I’ve been researching for Mixed Plate. On the inside, I am a true die-hard, hopeless romantic. Are you? Check out Paperwhite Studio’s site, I Love You More Than Blank for some sweetness and some funny on what people say they love their significant others more than.

Jennifer over at Made by Girl had asked me to put together a little guest post for her. I was, of course, very honored and excited to do so. I adore her shop and her blog always makes me happy! The topic was “7 Things on My Wish List for 2009″ and, uh….let’s just say the hardest part was narrowing the list down to a manageable number. I ended up sticking to handmade because those are my favorite things. Some items may look familiar to you since I featured them on Mixed Plate in the past. Check out the post and Jennifer’s shop.

Facebook? MySpace?
I have a confession to make. I honestly have tried to stay away from social networking sites for as long as I could. I finally set up a MySpace account earlier in the year and have finally jumped on board with the Facebook thing. I won’t lie in that previously the only image that came to mind with MySpace was the scene where Chris Hansen would come out with the Dateline NBC cameras. I know that’s not what it’s all about but it did freak me out nonetheless. Anyway, my point is that I basically set up my pages for business purposes. However, I must say that I’ve made some nice friends along the way. Wanna be pals? If you’re a fan, check me out our Facebook page and become a fan. I’ll be doing more fun things in 2009 on the networking circuit.

It’s in the works and is slowly coming together. Due to recent events I am, as you can unfortunately tell, quite behind on things here at Mixed Plate. I am working on bringing you new and exciting things. This includes the Holiday Gift Guide that will be launched on Friday, October 24. If you’re interested in participating, visit the advertising page for more info or shoot me an email at liana@mixedplateblog.com with any questions.
In other news, your girl has chopped her hair off again and has given it new color. Trust me, I needed a little pick-me-up.

I just wanted to pop in and say that I am still here. There has been another family emergency for me and I will be out of town (and back to Hawaii) for a week. So, that is why I haven’t been posting this week. Just a lot going on and I promise to get working on some great things for you. Also, if you have emailed me and I haven’t responded I apologize. I am getting there…
Have a great day!
