Woohoo! I did it yesterday. The hair is shorter and the streak that was bleached out (which originally had a salmon pink color in it) is now an orange-red color. Ahhh, fun. Thank you for the comments and emails about your own hair experiences. By the way, Jenn brought up a good point about my post yesterday. She almost passed up on reading it because the title seemed to imply that I was about to discuss hairy toes. Ha, ha!
So, here it is (bad photos and all that don’t allow you to really see the color properly. Actually, the cut is hard to see as well. It’s a lot shorter than yesterday.)…

This is just going to be one of those super random posts. Hey, that’s why this blog is called “Mixed Plate” though, right?
The weather in San Francisco has been strange (hot-cold-hot-cold). I can say that it’s strange because even though I haven’t resided here for very long, folks that have are calling it that as well. There have been some really warm days in the city and from what I understand this isn’t the norm. For a Hawaii gal like myself, the weather hasn’t been so hot to the point where I couldn’t handle it. But it has been toasty, nonetheless. I even treated myself to a pedicure the other day and wore my slippers…

Ah, just like back home…
For my other bit of randomness, I would like to bring up something that I’ve noticed about myself. I honestly don’t do a lot of shopping (don’t really like it). I don’t pamper myself very often. My wardrobe is basic and humble. I do, however, like to change it up every so often on the hair front. Coloring it, letting it grow long and then deciding on a whim to chop it all off. When I say on a whim, by the way, I really mean it. I get a little obsessive and anxious once I’ve made up my mind that the hair must change. I can’t think of anything else once it’s in my head and must have an appointment immediately. That’s the basic cycle of the love/hate affair I have with my hair. Funny thing is that I want fun and cute hair, but don’t like to work for it. I am such a low maintenance gal and hate the idea of product in the hair. It’s a wonder I even own a comb and a brush! Other than that it’s just the hair dryer because if not, I may freeze. No flat irons, curling contraptions, etc.
Since I’ve been in SF I have cut my hair two times. The first time my cut was good but the color, not so much. The second time was just a few weeks ago and I am in love with my hair guy. He is amazing and knows how to have fun with color. My hair is on the shorter side now and I’m about to cut it again this afternoon (my hair grows crazy fast).

Why am I rambling on about all of this? So, the thing I’ve noticed is that every time I decide I’m going to cut my hair because it’s driving me nuts it starts to look decent. Every. Single. Time. The day or two leading up to the cut my hair will fall just the right way and I’ll look at myself and think, “huh. It doesn’t look that bad”. Does this ever happen to you? I just have to know because it’s just an observation I’ve made about myself. Is it that I start feeling the guilt of knowing that I’ll have to fork over $$ to satisfy my hair obsession? Or maybe it’s my hair’s way of saying, “Screw you. I’m going to look nice for you so you feel bad for cutting me off”. What is it?
So…here’s the state my hair is in right now. Oh, and these pics surely aren’t the ones where my hair is “falling just the right way”. This is at the end of my work day. It’s just to give you an idea of how my hair makes me feel. (sorry for the poor photos and I also apologize if seeing me for the first time is disappointing in any way. I just realized that I didn’t take one that’s a “normal” just smiling one – the last one I’m making a face-ha!) Let the embarrassment commence…

ps – you may have noticed that I never ever post any photos of myself. Not of my face, at least. I have three business sites and 3 MySpace pages (all business related) and none of them have a single photo of me. I really don’t ever like the way I look in any of them anyway and I’m always embarrassed. However, I figured what the hey, we’re all friends here. Plus, it may help me be less shy and less judgmental of myself. Therapy, right?

I just wanted to let you know that I’ve been working hard to update and “fix” the Blog Rollin’ and Indie Shops and Sites pages. There were some glitches earlier and so we’re now good to go. I am still continuing to add some links to the Indie Shops page since it takes a little bit longer. If you should be there because you’ve advertised with me or have been featured in the past, shoot me an email. It may just be that I’m adding it back in again (I surely don’t want to leave you out).
By the way…if you have any Sales, Specials or Coupon codes you’d like to offer Mixed Plate readers just let me know. If you are a handmade shop, I would like to help support you and do my best to send customers your way!
ps – If you are listed on the Indie Shops and Sites page and would like to change the category you are listed in, let me know. Also, if you have a better, more current description of your shop (preferably on the shorter side), send me an email as well.
Mahalo!

Yes, it’s been a strange past few months. I’ve been feeling under the weather and that is why there’s been a delay in posts. I promise to share some fun goodies with you soon. Happy April and I hope you’re all well!

It’s time for BUST Magazine‘s first ever Spring Fling Craftacular! It’ll be taking place in Brooklyn on Sunday, April 27, 2008 at The Warsaw. After 3 years of enormously successful Holiday Craftaculers, BUST is ready to start the Springtime craft fair and ’90s themed dance. There will be over 50 vendors, DJs, dancing, and drinks.
BUST will be handpicking the most unique and talented crafters from across the country to sell their wares from 11am until 9pm at the Warsaw in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. While you shop, listen as the DJs spin your favorite jams from the ’90s and get your dance on.
If you’re interested in participating as a vendor, applications are available now. There are no exceptions as to who can apply, and BUST will consider everything: hip handmades, accessories, housewares, vamped up vintage clothing, knitwear, silk-screened items, cosmetics, paper goods, handbags, cards, and whatever else you craft!
Visit their site for more info today. Oh, I wish I could be there…

I am away from Mixed Plate (thus explaining the recent lack of posts) until February 6 due to a family emergency. I will be checking in on my mail when possible and will try to respond to everyone as soon as I can. Thank you so much for your patience.

Hey Mixed Platers! I just wanted to wish you a Happy New Year. I hope that you all had a safe and exciting holiday season. I was away for a week or so since I went back home to Hawaii to visit my family and to attend the beautiful wedding of my brother-in-law. He and his bride were absolutely lovely!
I hope that you are looking forward to this new year as much as I am. I have some fun things planned for Mixed Plate and, fingers crossed, they’ll all get done this time around. Thank you for your support with my travels and moving. I appreciate your patience and love that you’ve stuck with me. I am truly fortunate to have you as my cyber buddies!
Aloha and welcome 2008…

Have you noticed Mixed Plate’s makeover? Yesterday the switch was made and I do hope that you like it. Mixed Plate is a year old and it seemed about time for an upgrade. Enjoy!

Mixed Plate is going through a change and will soon have a new look. This week if you notice that things look a little different, it may not be your computer that is wonky and it may just be because of the change. I do hope that you will like it! Stay tuned…

I am an animal lovin’ gal. So, it’s no surprise that I should like things that have animal patterns or designs on them. For this first installment of animal related finds I’ve decided to go with deer. Boy, was it hard to narrow down to just a few choices. Enjoy!
