I love these adorable and practical Reusable Veggies Bags by Wonder Thunder at Fey Handmade. The bags are made from preshrunk recycled cotton muslin and have an organic cotton drawstring. The designs are drawn then screen-printed with water-based inks. Choose either red or blue {or, hey, maybe a set of each} and receive 4 bags in various sizes for just $20.00. They’re even machine washable!

What do you prefer? Sometimes it just depends on the time of day. The mood you’re in. What you need to accomplish. Have a look at these hand-embroidered reusable cup cozies by Debbie of 60 bugs. I have something similar and just carry it with me when I know I’ll be heading to the local coffee shop. It’s a great alternative to the paper/cardboard ones they hand out. Just think of how many times per week you get your fix and you’ll soon realize how much waste you’ll be preventing. Oh, and these are oh-so-cute!

ps - 60 bugs is having an earth week sale! All cup cozies are on currently 20% off. Sale ends April 26, 2009.

Today is Earth Day. This doesn’t mean that today is the only day you should do right by mother earth. Kathy, for example, creates jewelry from recycled materials that she comes across in her everyday life or things that are donated to her. Artwork by KD is currently offering free shipping in honor of Earth Day. Here are a couple of my favorites…

Let’s be good to the trees and not actually carve into them. If you have an event coming up, why not let the folks at Toast create some custom favors for you. These Heart Stumps are great…

The old heart with the initials tree carving is classic and romantic. Toast offers this modern way of declaring your love without causing harm to the forest. Each handmade 100% biodegradable Heart Stump is personalzed with a faux wood carving of your initials and the date of your special day. You can purchase them empty so that you can fill them with whatever your heart desires, purchase them pre-filled with locally made chocolate macadamia nut candies (yum!), or filled with a handkerchief printed with a matching heart motif. Check out their site for more goodies and for more info.

I am very excited to share that Vintage Indie‘s Indie Wedding Guide has, for the second year, launched the Indie Weddings Month Celebration. What this means for you is a guide and directory full of amazing ideas to create your wedding using all things indie. They offer ways of d-i-ying it and encourage the three R’s: reduce, reuse and recycle. During the month of March, they’ll be posting information about giveaways, independent and small business vendors, tutorials and project ideas, eco-friendly and vintage alternatives and real life wedding tales. Check it out for yourself and share with loved ones who may need some wedding day planning tips.

While I have had the feeling of being used before, I can look at the whole “used” thing in a more positive light, right? Maybe in the form of a reusable, eco-friendly bag. These bags by urban:kitty were made from repurposed vinyl wallcovering and straps of natural hemp. Gotta love the letterpressed design, too (done by Blackbird Letterpress).

Bookends! Currently I do not own very many books. When you move (I’ve moved a couple times in Hawaii a few times in the last several years and then here to SF) you tend to keep things pretty minimal in your living space. Of course, I say this as I just placed an online order for an amazing photo book (I’ll share that with you once it arrives). My point is that I have a bookshelf that all my books, cookbooks, magazines and other miscellaneous items are stacked. No bookends, however. Maybe if I can get my act together and have space for some bookends, these will do just lovely…

Juliet Ames of Baltimore likes to break things. Recycled and vintage plates to be exact. She fashions one-of-a-kind jewelry and belt buckles by wrecking wedding china and other sentimental ceramic shards and enjoys doing custom work. I love how she finds just the perfect color or pattern in the broken pieces and turns it into something spectacular. Here’s some work via her site, The Broken Plate Pendant Company.

Jack White, I love you. I really do. Whether rocking out as part of The White Stripes or The Raconteurs or even acting, you can do no wrong in my eyes.
Yes, I crush on Jack White. So when I stumbled upon this plate by Trixie Delicious you can imagine my excitement. All of the items in the shop are hand painted reworked vintage china. She has everything from your favorite bands to sassy sayings and even “for mature audiences only” graphics and wording gracing her works. That’s right – recycled, funny and oh-so-fabulous!
The White Stripes Pearly Queen Plate: $35.00:

ps – this isn’t Jack related, but look what else she’s made…

Yes, that IS a Flight of The Conchords Plate. Oh, man…even Murray is on there!

Vintage Indie has teamed up with Eco-Chic Weddings and declared March, Indie Weddings Month. They created the Indie Weddings Guide to create a resource for brides to turn to when looking to minimize waste. Gabreial and Emily also offer ideas for using indie designers, a DIY attitude and those famous three R’s: Reuse, Recycle, Reduce. I only wish I had thought this way at the time of my wedding! So, check it out now if you’re in the planning process, know anyone who is or just want to practice your eco-skills.
