Ready to go? Me, too! This is Balbegno Castle in Scotland. It is a 1560’s castle that Charlie and Caroline Gladstone of Pedlars have redecorated and refurbished over the course of two years. It is situated in the center of thousands of acres of undisturbed wilderness. There is a large private garden, a croquet lawn, and so much more. Look at that shot above taken at dusk via Team Pedlars. Oh, and the colorful cabinet? Must. Have.

march 4.

Well, today is, um. Alright, it’s my birthday today. I never really tell people when my birthday is unless they come out and ask me. Okay, so I accidentally blurted it out to someone I was talking with yesterday. I figured he wouldn’t remember anything I had said, so no harm done. I’m sharing with you because we’re friends and I’m trying really hard to embrace the day. I never make a big deal about it and I guess that may happen as you get older, right? Today I turn *cough, cough* years old and the best part is that no one ever can guess my real age. Yup, the good news is that I look younger than I am. But, oh, if only I were still cute…

Me at Sea Life Park. You know you love the Dove Shorts.

Anyway, big mahalos to you all for being supportive of me. Thank you for always leaving me nice comments and sending me sweet emails. You are the best gift in this crazy online world that I could ask for.

What inspires you? It can be difficult to narrow it down to just a few things. I mean, that’s part of the reason I have Mixed Plate. There’s so much inspiration out there that I keep it cataloged here where I can share it with you all. To pinpoint what inspires me was tough, but here is what I came up with…

I am also inspired by the people I meet each day, my family and friends, music, fashion, animals {especially dogs}, typography, packaging design, independent artists and designers, small businesspersons, and anyone who wants to make this world a better place. You know, just to name a few.

Please continue to check out all of the blogs. Tomorrow Manvi of Mochatini will be continuing our blogger mashup. I can’t wait to see what inspires her!

ps – thank you again to Victoria. I can’t imagine how much work it must have been to organize 300 people {although it’s a guarantee that she received more emails than just the 300 of us!}. I really appreciate you putting this project together. Also, thanks to Ez for our adorable badges and Hijiri for the helping to create the special Blog it Forward page!

In case you missed it, others that helped kick things off yesterday include sfgirlbybay, Creature Comforts, Hula Seventy, Paper Pony, Design for Mankind, Ink on my Fingers, Poppytalk, Heart Fish, Smile and Wave.

blog it forward starts today.

blog1

I’m so excited to be participating in Blog it Forward. It’s the brainchild of the fabulous Victoria who put in an extreme amount of work to organize a list of 300 bloggers {yes, 300} who will be taking to their blogs each day to share what inspires them personally. This is a perfect way to learn more about your favorite blog editors as well as discover new ones {that I’m sure will soon become favorites}. It is set up to be something like a chain letter. Today the first person in each group will start by posting on their own blog, then linking to the next one in their group and so on. This will take place over six weeks and will be all sorts of goodness, guaranteed. I am looking forward to taking part in this project and hope you all enjoy it.

Thank you to Victoria for all of her hard work!

vegas.

Sorry for the silence the last couple of days. I took a quick, last minute trip to Vegas. My mom and two aunties flew from Hawaii to stay with two of my other aunties that live there. My sister came from Florida and I hopped a plane from San Francisco so we could all meet up. Seeing everyone was great. We even saw Bette Midler’s show. She is absolutely amazing! Other than that we mostly hung out and, of course, ate. I’m lacking photos, but here are a couple from the Bellagio that I snapped with my phone {for Chinese New Year: Year of the Tiger}:

pikaland tonight at etsy virtual lab.

1745

Very exciting news! Amy of Pikaland will be hosting an Etsy Virtual Lab tonight at 9pm EST. The topic will be “Thinking Out of the Box” where she will cover things like how to gain more exposure for your business in a creative manner, and how to go beyond simply setting up your shop to build a solid reputation for yourself. I’m pretty bummed because I’ll be at my day job during that time so I can’t join in. But, you can!

Poppytalk Handmade: New Market.

I know, you’re sick of hearing me say this {or sick of reading it?}. But, I really do get excited when Jan announces the arrival of the newest Poppytalk Handmade Market. This month it’s all about back-to-school. I’m not headed back to school, but that doesn’t mean I can’t pick up a few things, right? This Marketplace will be up through September 18.

The ART Weekend.

Hell Yes. I spent three days last week {in case you were wondering where I’ve been – why no Friday Favorites post} stuffing my brain with art. Some of the classes I took were Letterpress, Illustrator, InDesign, Screenprinting and Digital Workflow for Photographers, just to name a few. Yup, I took full advantage of having all these talented artists and teachers in one spot. I am so lucky to have bosses who are flexible and took off a couple of days just for the classes. It. Was. Amazing.

The downside is that on the first day I forgot to bring my camera. The second day I brought my camera but forgot to charge my battery. I know, I know. So, I’ll just have to share with you a couple of photos from Letterpress and Screenprinting that were taken on my phone. Not so great, but you’ll get the idea.

Letterpress Class was taught by the oh-so-talented Jordan Ferney. She teaches other letterpress classes throughout the year at her studio {which she shares with her husband, artist Paul Ferney, who taught the oil painting class}. You should definitely take a class with Jordan if you’re interested in this medium.

LetterpressClass

Andy Cane is such a cool guy. He and his wife just moved from San Francisco to Oregon a couple weeks ago. They came back just to teach this class. How nice! He gave us detailed instructions and I even scored a screen after class so I can be on my way to screenprinting bliss. Again, if you ever see a class of his offered, take it. He is a true DIYer and has so much knowledge to share.

ScreenprintingClass

Thank you so much to Nicole for organizing the whole weekend. It was a lot of work for her and she did an amazing job {AND taught classes, by the way}. Oh, and the other two fabulous teachers that taught the Illustrator, PhotoShop, InDesign, Cartooning For Kids, etc. classes are the husband and wife duo Mike and Alma Loveland. I wish that I could have a special hotline to their home so that I could pick their brains about all of the software they know so much about. Mahalo to all of the teachers! ART Weekend rocked!!!

Trippin’.

If you’re wondering where I’ve disappeared to, I apologize. I realized that I hadn’t done a post about being away for the next 9 days or so. I’m with family on a little trip. My sister came from Florida, my mom and dad from Hawaii. We’re currently in Vancouver, will be heading to San Juan Islands and then finally to Seattle. I’ll try to keep you updated when possible or even squeeze in a post. I’m currently not doing anything with my phone since AT&T will charge me an arm and a leg if I do so. Luckily, I have my laptop with me and am attempting to take advantage of any free internet I can.

Today was absolutely beautiful here (even though I was prepared for the rain). We spent the morning at Granville Island, the next several hours up at Grouse Mountain and then had dinner in Gastown. Tomorrow we’re headed for Stanley Park. I’m wondering if I’ll be able to rent a bike and enjoy the sun. We’ll see…

Hope you will all have a wonderful weekend and that your week went well.

bleh.

I haven’t forgotten about you,  lovelies. I am not feeling 100% this morning and am going to skip posting for now. I’ll be back later today or first thing tomorrow morning. For sure. Hope you had a great weekend. Enjoy your Monday!
