christina remenyi and addie chown are the two designers behind fortnight lingerie. their undergarments {as i’ve featured here before} are carefully handmade in their studio in toronto, canada. i received an email regarding the release of their video ‘Made in Canada’ and thought i’d share it with you. i love seeing the connection between designer/artist and their pieces. this video shows the heart that goes in to creating a line that offers amazing craftsmanship and showcases their attention to detail. get inspired…
yesterday i was grumpy. just plain grumpy. i blame it on my bus ride to work {oh, muni…you have a way of doing that to me}. but sometimes to get out of that mood you just have to think positive and say nice things. it helps. then again, it’s always a good idea to say something nice…
brooklyn, new york resident dana tanamachi is a graphic designer and custom chalk letterer. can you imagine the patience it must take to create such beautiful pieces of work? amazing.
so…this is new to me, but a few years ago there was a commercial that aired where thousands of colorful bouncy balls made their way down the streets {and crazy hills} of san francisco. danish photographer, peter funch was able to capture the action and the limited edition prints are available for sale at Lumas. check these photos…
amazing, right?! i can’t believe that really happened! here’s the video {i think it’s beautiful}…
if it hasn’t been mentioned here before, you may now be able to guess my age from this post. when i saw that jimmy fallon had said via his twitter that bell biv devoe would be on his show, well…i kind of lost my sh*t. sorry, it’s true. i was so excited. i went to work yesterday morning and spread the news to some friends who share a love for this group and would appreciate my enthusiasm. of course, i started feeling old when one of the girls who overheard our conversation gave me a look and said, “who?” when i mentioned the super slick r&b group. i was hurt and sad for her. i mean, not to take away from any r&b groups of today, but they just don’t do it like this…
i mean, come on. they had the matching vests/outfits and dance moves.
and this one was a web exclusive {i assume because of the song content}…
please tell me you were jamming with them while they did those old school dance moves. right?
ps – i was bbd’ing it up all day yesterday. yup, listened to all my faves.
happy monday. do you have the holiday off today? i am headed off to the gym {hooray!} and then to work. i wanted to post this video i had seen last month via charlie day’s twitter. i was reminded of it again when i was visiting shauna and stephen’s blog over the weekend {more on them to come in a little bit}. hope this beautiful clip gets your week off to a great start…
how was your weekend? did you watch the superbowl? i was at work and heard all the cheers from folks hanging out at the many sports bars that line the street nearby. the weather was so gorgeous the last couple of days {it almost made me nervous, as i think it’s unusual for this time of year here}.
to give you a little monday morning boost of inspiration, give this feist video a go. it’s the trailer for her documentary, look at what the light did now. she is such a talented artist and musician and the team of people she works with are equally creative and bring her songs to life. i know firsthand because i saw her in concert a couple of years ago and it really was like a fabulous art project.
oh, monday morning. need a great way to start off your week? well, thanks to a little tweet that shauna and stephen posted last week, i am in love with portlandia. the new comedy series stars fred armisen and carrie brownstein and is completely filmed in portland, oregon {where they have based their characters on}. i’ve watched every clip available online and laughed so hard. for those of us in the handmade crafts and design community, this one may appeal to you…
and then there’s this {i know you know those people}…
i really do. and here are just two more reasons why…
i know that that video has been around for a few months, but i still love watching it. and then i saw this thanks to the coconut records twitter update…
i think when people meet me they assume i may be the kind of girl that would enjoy romantic comedies. not that i hate them or anything, i just would rather watch a horror flick. i don’t know what it is, but i like sitting and watching something and hoping i’ll get scared. i get tense and nervous as the scene builds {you know, when you just know something is about to happen} and i love it. when i had a television {sheesh! that was before i moved to sf!} i’d look forward to this time of year because you could find those “100 scariest moments/movies” shows or “fear festivals” going on. what are some movies that always scare you? here’s a few that may do the trick…
ringu is the japanese {original} version of the ring…
what makes the house of the devil great is that it was released in 2009 but is shot to look like it’s the 80′s. not saying it’s super scary or anything, but it has a couple of moments.
i realize that none of these movies are particularly gory {which i will admit to enjoying sometimes, too}. also, i noticed i didn’t post any zombie movies. shame on me. well, with blogs like shana‘s surviving horror, brutal as hell, and new-to-me horror society, i can get my horror fix at any time.
so, what’s your favorite scary movie? what was the last one that freaked you out so bad that you didn’t want to go to the bathroom alone in the middle of the night or wanted to leave all the lights on? i’m trying to figure that out.
I am headed over now to purchase my copy of Creative, Inc. It’s the new book that is “The Ultimate Guide to Running a Successful Freelance Business” by Meg Mateo Ilasco and Joy Deangdeelert Cho {two of my favorites!}. I’m so excited that they are also embarking on a little book tour with stops in San Francisco {hooray!}, Los Angeles, and New York. Check out this adorable stop-motion film that Meg and Joy created with Thayer Allyson Gowdy…
This book is a definite must. Purchase your copy via Chronicle Books.
ps – the music for the film was provided by the ultra-talented susie ghahremani.
aloha! i’m Liana. this is my site. i am not a professional writer. i pretty much just write the way i talk. it’s fun meeting new online friends and introducing these amazing artists. i’ll do my best to keep you entertained.
