how do you feel about waffles? it’s not often that i get to have them. i actually don’t have “real breakfasts” very often. it’s kind of like a treat if i go out with friends or when my family is in town. so i was pretty excited to get a waffle maker from my friend for christmas {because she was quite appalled by the fact that i didn’t have one already}. i finally busted that puppy out the other morning…

that’s right! it’s no ordinary waffle maker. it’s called the waffle zoo maker. and, yes, you’re seeing a lion, giraffe, and an elephant. mmmmm…i’m kind of wanting waffles for dinner now.

each day i smile when i see these two in my kitchen…

cute, huh? i got this a few years ago when i was home while i was out with my mom and sister {she has a set, too}. it’s a little hawaiian couple salt and pepper shaker set {they have little magnets on their lips so they stay connected}. what’s funny is that i just use them as display and have never even put salt and pepper in them. it’s all about the cute factor.

so last night i actually slept pretty well. if i’ve never mentioned this before, i have had some crazy insomnia for the last couple of years. i figured out the causes as to why i’ve been such a bad sleeper {stress is a bitch!}. most mornings i’ve been pumped that it’s a new year and i feel like things are going to get better. this morning, because i’ve let some things creep back into my head, i woke up feeling a little down. so what’s a girl to do when she needs a pick me up {other than kick it with ben and jerry}?

yup. i went to cut my hair. change is good. in the past i would go drastic and cut it super short. i’ve been letting my hair grow for the past few years and so i left it long but cut out some of the weight {i’ve got lots of hair!} and let her cut long bangs and layers. next week i’ll go in to add a streak of color. the question is, should i do blue or purple. hmmmm…

ps – i went to sweet asylum here in san francisco. it’s such a cute little place with great vintage pieces like those gumball/candy machines.

are you a collector? for a long time i told myself that i would never really collect anything. it’s not that i never liked anything enough to have a group of them. it’s more that i used to think i would be wasting money and space. but what i really was concerned about was the fact that i thought i’d be obsessed. like, if there was a certain series of whatever it was i wanted to collect, i’d have to have them all. or that was my fear. i have decided, however, to collect little things that make me smile. most of them are quirky objects or things that are handmade. this guy is one of my favorites…

yup. it’s a little spam musubi. jen of jakc designs makes all sorts of cuteness. before her last show she had let me know that i’d probably enjoy the addition of the spam musubi to her line because she knew i was a hawai‘i girl. she was right. i even got one for my sister.

on my fridge there’s a bunch of crazy happening. i’ve got silly magnets, funny little quotes, pictures of friends and their families, and this cute strawberry…

it’s funny how it makes me smile each time i look at it. i got it last year at daiso in japantown for just $1.50. it’s the little things, you know? it’s a mini pair of scissors that’s also a magnet. i love it.

ps – yup, that’s a quote from elf that it’s holding up on my fridge.
